Physical Literacy

Achieve Physical Literacy through the outstanding Tecnico Coaching Physical Eduation Programme…

Every child needs to have access to quality physical education development opportunities in school, after school and in the wider community. Such opportunity is essential if children are to accumulate the skills attitudes and knowledge to fully engage in physical activity for the rest of their lives. But what does “Quality” mean and how can they achieve the objective of being physically literate? Learning isolated skills is only a part. Physical fluency of movement, adaptability and quickness of mind are at the heart of a physically literate child. Physical Fluency of movement is the foundation stone to develop the self-confidence and self-esteem necessary to engage in different and more challenging situations and provide the motivation to achieve their potential.

Physically literate children will feel “with it” and “at home” in their bodies and comfortable with their physicality.
Physically literate children move with poise, grace and economy and their aquired automaticity of movement will allow them effortlessly to transfer core skills, actions, rhythms, patterns of movement and tactics across different activities, sports and environments. Knowledge, skills, positive attitudes, understanding and motivation, together with enough experience will enable the physically literate child to successfully engage in a wide range of challenging situations. Having “read” the situation and experienced it in a range of different environments and contexts they can more easily predict or anticipate what is likely to happen next and react appropriately through movement.

Quality physical education has always been about arranging and helping children to acquire progressive and developmentally appropriate knowledge, understanding, attitudes and physical skills. The achievement of physical literacy is the result of an on-going process in which mind and body continuously transfer and adapt to the changes in a range of challenging activities, or differing environments and contexts and also to those that emerge as a result of human development.
Therefore wide ranging, quality activities, tasks and schemes of work that are delivered with progressively complex and engaging challenges combine with the knowledge and understanding of how to use skills in different situations to create a physically literate child. Such a child will have the confidence and ability to successfully adapt and use the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to meet challenges for healthy engagement in life-long physical activity. Some children will be able to achieve sporting excellence.
